March 8 Cartagena to Lima via Guayaquil

After a very interesting stop in Cartagena, it was time to join our Journeyers in Lima. the distance between Cartagena and Lima in 1500 nm. We decide on a stop in Guayaquil, Ecuador to visit our friend Aldo Borges, based in Guayaquil.

Our route was from Cartagena to Medellin, Cali, Esmeralda and then Guayaquil. All the Colombian name we like to hear. My idea was to avoid flying over the Andes. It worked perfect and the controller basically gace us dire ct from Cartagena to the border of Ecuador. The "Buenos Dias " on the radio workd their wonders and soon we were in Guayaquil.

Since our departure from Florida we have crossed the Tropic of the Cancer in the Bahamas.

Today we are getting closer to the Ecuator and we are keeping a close eye on all our instrument, to recored the passage of the magic line and our entrance to the Southern Hemisphere, where winter become summer.

Our stop was suppose to be short....

We met Aldo, refuel the plane and crank-up the turbine...While requesting our clearance we were told that Guayaquil Airport was closed for at least one hour because of a sink hole in the middle of the runway......a sink hole????

All my trying to get an intersection take off were denyed and we turn back for more Ecuadorian FBO hospitality.

After an hour we were ready to startup again and launch our next leg 650 nm to Lima Peru. Imagine a full day of flying with 3 countries and getting south of the Ecuator...Landing in Lima.

Great leg again in the comfort of the TBM, and after 2h40 minute we were line up for the landing in Lima...main airport.

Peruvian Handling was waiting for us after we park at the slot 51 of the general aviation space, in front of the main terminal.

Time to meet the group and Sophie.

We had a great dinner at a private residence, belonging t the same family since Pisaro, the Conquistador , came to Peru.

Night was at the Park Hotel Miraflores.

We said Good Bye to Kevin Ware, the Journey director for the Florida Lima leg
